“Although Obama is a better choice, I’m voting for McCain”

Published by untypikkal at 8:58 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Those are the words of my father. Growing up in an asian family, I was exposed to many conservative views, and most of them I never believed myself. In a conversation with my dad one day, the discuss about Obama vs. McCain came up. “So daddy who are you voting for?” He replies to me, ” Although Obama is a better choice, I’m voting for McCain.” That’s absolutely ridiculous I thought. My dad later tried to tell me that this is the country of the white men, and a white man should run it; that even though Obama is a better choice, people aren’t going to vote for him because he is a man of color. I reassured my dad that, in fact I have my full confidence in the American society, that the people of my generation, and generations that came before us, no longer have those biased views. Society has come a long way since the day of outright racism, and in fact Obama running for President confirms it. I never felt that race was a factor growing up, and I believe that the American society will choose the President who is right for the future of the United States, other than by the color of his skin. I proceeded to wager a bet with my dad, betting $20 on Obama. Here’s hoping that I win because I believe Obama is the “change we can believe in.”
